Richard Branson on Twitter:
Many, many congratulations to Jack Dorsey, Biz Stone, Evan Williams, Dick Costolo and their incredible team for creating Twitter and driving its spectacular success today.
I was fortunate enough to get to know Jack some time ago, and I became a relatively small shareholder in Twitter early on. Jack is full of entrepreneurial spirit and great ideas.
He also found time to create Square, another wonderful company we are early investors in. It gives everybody from taxi drivers to coffee shops to small businesses an easy way to make mobile payments. Jack is now starting to talk about Square’s IPO– watch this space!

Interestingly, the largest shareholder of Twitter, Suhail R. Rizvi, came up with the idea over a drink at the bar on Necker’s beach. A lot of great ideas are dreamed up on Necker! Today, Twitter has raised the price of its initial public offering at $26 a share, giving it a valuation of over $14bn.
I have thoroughly enjoyed using Twitter over the last few years and found it really helpful for campaigning on issues we are passionate about, from the regulation of drugs to species conservation, conflict resolution to climate change. Twitter is also great for making new connections, hearing feedback, sharing advice, and just having some fun on there!
I’m looking forward to seeing where Twitter goes next. What do you find most useful about Twitter? Let me know on – you guessed it…
