Two persons were arrested on Monday night for stealing 17 gold bangles from Kajol and Ajay Devgn’s Juhu bungalow on October 19. The jewellery, worth Rs 5 lakh, has also been recovered. The Juhu police, who made the arrests, said the accused were identified as Gayatri Devendra (22) and Santosh Pandey (33). Reportedly, the two had been doing the cleaning work outside the bungalow for the last two to three years.
The Devgn family hired them for a few days for cleaning the house for Karvachauth celebrations. The bangles were stolen on October 19, but it wasn’t till three days later that Kajol discovered the 17 pieces missing from a drawer while getting ready for the celebrations. She told the police that she had used some articles from the same jewellery box on October 15, and the bangles were there atthetime.AcomplaintwasfiledattheJuhupolicestationonWednesdayinthisregard. The cops then questioned all the servants, and some other suspects, in the case. They also carried out polygraph tests on suspects, during which Gayatri, a resident of Nehru Nagar in Juhu, confessed to the theft.
On the basis of her confession, Pandey was arrested later from his Nalla Sopara residence. Four bangles were recovered intact, while the rest had been melted.
This is the second theft reported from the Devgn residence in the last few years. In 2008, a member of the family’s domestic staff was involved in the case, who was eventually arrested from Chhattisgarh.
Meanwhile, confirming the report, Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Vishwas Nangare Patil said, “We havearrestedthetwoaccusedandthejewellery has been recovered.”
